Van Duylen, representative of a diamond syndicate, brings to Amsterdam the Koh-I-Noor II , the largest diamond ever found. In one of the city's oldest diamond-cutting establishments it is cleft and the nine small stones are polished. Escorted by detectives, Van Duylen takes the stones home and puts them in his burglar-proof safe. He tells his wife that its doors are electrically charged and that anyone opening them in the wrong way will immediately be electrocuted. Two suspicious persons, Jack the Acrobat and the lion-tamer Feenstra, prowl around Van Duylen's villa, inspecting the doors and windows.

Maassen won two of the biggest comedy contests in the Netherlands in 1990, the Groninger Studenten Cabaret Festival(GSCF), and Cameretten. The GSCF jury was not pleased with the quality of the contestants that year, and gave Maassen the first prize, remarking he was the best of the year, but still not very good. In the following years, however, Maassen fame grew steadily, especially amongst students. Maassens style was based on stand-up comedy: Alone on stage, telling jokes and stories to amuse the public, without any musical support (a thing common for most Dutch comedians up to that point). Since 2000, Maassens shows are shown on Dutch national television, making him more and more a household name.

Vijf tegen Vijf was a Dutch game show based on the original American format of Family Feud. In the game, two teams consisting of five contestants play against each other and have to answer questions based on surveys taken by random people from Holland. They have to guess which answer was given by most of the people involved in the survey. It was first aired by the VARA in 1983, and the show was hosted by Willem Ruis. However, the show was cancelled in 1986 because of the death of Willem Ruis. The VARA revived the series in March 1992 with Peter-Jan Rens as the host, but the show went to the commercial channel RTL 4 in 1993, because host Peter-Jan Rens also went to that channel. Later, the show was sponsored by the Lotto. RTL 4 cancelled the program in 1998 because there were problems with the rights for the format. When the commercial channel Talpa started in 2005, they began airing new episodes of the show. At Talpa, the show was hosted by singer Gordon Heuckeroth from 2005 to 2006, and later in 2006, Winston Gerschtanowitz became the host. In 2008, RTL 5 began airing reruns of the Talpa episodes. On June 6, 2009, RTL 4 aired a special edition hosted by Carlo Boszhard. In this episode celebrities tried to win as much money as possible for charity.
